Hi Charlene,

This is a great post! I remember meeting you at the event. Your were lovely and carried yourself much better than you remember. If you want to feel better about our encounter, just watch that Larry King video you saw of Keith where he recounts the first time he met the King of News... we all get nervous sometimes.

I've met a ton of celebrities and high profile people, and rarely get nervous or flustered. I follow a few rules to make sure I meet someone in the best frame of mind:

1. I always know my value proposition when I approach them. I've done my homework and know what "currency" I have that I can offer them.
2. I always approach decidedly, confidently with a big smile.
3. I approach every person I meet as if I'm the host of the party, and we're at my party.

Just remember to be yourself, find a way to care about and help everyone you meet.
