P90X - Day One

Spiderman (age four) meant it with affection when he said, "Mommy, your butt is so nice and blumpy."

"Blumpy??" I queried, slightly afraid.

"Yep.  Nice and blumpy!" he answered with confidence.

He then started poking each cheek in turn as if jabbing at two quivering bowls full of JELL-O.

"Balump, balump, balump, balump!!" he sang.

Yikes. Out of the mouths of babes indeed.  Yet another one of life's reminders that practicing what ya preach is a real biotch.

I know I've been slacking.  Remember the slippery slope?  Clearly the time has come for more than just commuter crunches and running in place whilst waiting for my Chai latte to heat up.

So... my sister Ange actually bought me the full Beachbody P90X workout kit a couple of months ago.

This morning after Spidey's...um... compliment, I retrieved the dusty P90X box from the shelf where it's been sitting since it arrived.

No time like the present, right?

Given that I did the whole "carpe diem" thing with the Quantum Wellness Cleanse as well, I'm feeling like this is a positive trend for me.

It's November 28 and it would have been so "me" (in the past) to rationalize waiting until the first of December.  And then, since I'll be traveling... waiting until the next Monday.  Then, it would be almost Christmas and who starts a new fitness program right before Christmas?

Well, no excuses.  I'm starting today.

First, I had to do a "fit test" to make sure the P90X won't kill me. I passed the test without passing out. Whew!

I went on the Beachbody.com website, created my profile and entered all my beginning measurements and stats.  I watched Tony Horton's instructional "watch this first" DVD.  Miss M. took my new "before" photos.  (Yeah, I'm so not posting those until I have the "afters" to share!)

My first WOWY SuperGym workout is scheduled for 1pm today. Chest & Back plus Ab Ripper X

Somehow the word "ripper" in a workout routine should scare me, but I am a huge fan of the regular Power 90 program.   Bring it on!

If you are interested in the (probably boring) play-by-play, you can click on the P90X Updates link on my sidebar (or click here.)

Thanks in advance for your support!!

Holy crap. Here's hoping that by day 90 I can get through 80 min of working out hardcore without feeling like I'm going to throw up. LOL!

Good luck with the workout. I am feeling tired just thinking of exercise. It is better than a blumpy butt though.

Charlene, are you gonna have judges like on the biggest loser?

Best of Luck to you! It's funny because I can make excuses with the best of them...although they aren't that original I'm guessing...because they sound exactly like yours!
And FTR, I wouldn't put up before pics either...ever. LOL

Good luck to you! I too had P90x in my posession. I figured it sounded like a good regimen to get into shape. Saw the infomercial and was impressed! Plus I had 20-ish years of Martial Arts training (and a Black Belt), at one time was a solid 225 pounds when I went through a body building phase, so this should be a "regroup" I could easily attain. As I lay on my back here "belly up" at the bottom of my own "slippery slope", and as my daughter has asked, "when are you going to get 'strong' again Daddy?", I too have felt the innocent sting from my kiddos.
After opening the box, I quickly and neatly returned it to it's shipping pristine state and sold it on Ebay. Yoga took it's place in my exercise regimen instead. I know I need to move something heavier than my Yoga mat from my trunk to the studio floor if I want to stop making "old man noises" when I bend into a down dog, but even though some of my body has relocated to my equator, I am not yet at a "Biggest Loser" status, so I guess I will eat the Christmas cookies and wait for a majority of my "blumpy" peers for a January 1 kick off. Keep us posted!

Tony - you may want to check out Power 90 to start NOW and get a good running start before you do something like P90X. "Regular" P90 is totally "doable" as they have two levels. And, if you like yoga, that's a big component. I've tried LOTS of workouts and so far Power 90 is by the far the most enjoyable, easiest to stick to and best results.

P90X may seriously kick my ass but I feel like I need a challenge right now. We'll see!!

SEIZE THE DAY my friend! Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a GIFT. That's why they call it the PRESENT! :-)

I always get sucked into those P90X infomercials. It looks like a killer workout. The toughest I've tried were crossfit workouts on my own at the local gym. I frequently felt like puking, but man was I in good shape.

Wishing you all the best in your P90X adventure.

Wow. I could use a little exercise for sure, but just looking at that beachbody website made me tired! Maybe I'll buy the "regular" program and do it at half speed or something. Would that count?

This is very impressive before Christmas.

I normally wait until January to embark on an unsuccessful exercise regime.

Hubby wants me to try this program. Guess he thinks I need something drastic to kick me in gear and get me some results since he's sick of hearing me whine about my baby belly (and chin, and arms, and cankles). I'm scared, though. Hope it works for you! Stopped over from SITS to say hello!

I have never done the program, but I LOVE Ab Ripper X!

Charlene said...

Well, I figure if I wait... I'll just that much MORE blumpiness to get rid of!

I have to admit, the "food thing" is much harder this time of year. Might need to double up on the workouts!!

Charlene said...

OOh - me too! I had been doing the P90 Ab 200 so the "X" was a GREAT challenge. 349 reps of "hurts so good." All of these workouts were MADE for people like me who have exercise ADD!

Hello fellow SITSta! I need your help!

Could you vote for me in Iron Cupcake?

(I am campaigning for votes….because I put a lot of time and effort into this)

If there is anything I can do for you in the future don’t hesitate to ask!

Thanks! I hi-jacked a test post in my archive to track my workouts and other updates. At some point I'll put a button on my sidebar, but here's the link: http://www.beamingbalance.com/2009/01/test.html

On Day #4 and even brought my P90X DVD's on my business trip so I can stick with it!
